Following the official commencement of renovation works, Kinango Vocational Training College in Kwale County is set for a major facelift.
The initiative, which aims to improve infrastructure and enhance the learning environment, reflects the county government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening vocational and technical education.
The renovation contract has been awarded to Manyanani Women Group, a local organisation known for actively participating in community development projects.
This move is also part of the county’s strategy to empower local groups through government tenders economically.
During the site’s official handover, Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to improving the quality of education in county-managed institutions.
“We are committed to uplifting and empowering our vocational colleges to ensure our youth have access to modern, well-equipped learning facilities,” she said.
Achani said education is the foundation of self-reliance, and her administration is determined to create opportunities for every learner.
So far, Kwale County has successfully constructed 43 regional vocational training centres.
The institutions offer various courses, including plumbing, electrical installation, motor vehicle mechanics, hairdressing, carpentry, masonry, garment making, tailoring and dressmaking, welding, and computer studies, among other technical programs.
Currently, the technical institutions boast an enrollment of approximately 4,500 students, taught and guided by 128 instructors employed by the County Government.
