Parents in Kuresoi, Nakuru County, have been urged to prioritise their children’s education amid growing concerns over school dropouts in the region.
Deputy County Commissioner Malak Namai, speaking during a community meeting in Kamwaura, described education as a powerful equalizer and emphasized the need for every child to be in school.
Namai expressed concern over the increasing number of children not attending school, terming the situation as unacceptable and a threat to the region’s future.
“Education opens doors and levels the playing field. It is the responsibility of every parent to ensure their child is in school,” he said.

He also cautioned youths against the misuse of social media, warning that those engaging in online misconduct risk severe legal consequences.
“Social media should not be a platform for destruction. I urge the youth to use it constructively—for innovation and income generation,” added Namai, noting that misuse had reached alarming levels.
On her part, Sub-County Director of Education Donett Otieno called for an end to outdated cultural practices that hinder education, stressing the need for parents to protect and guide their children.
Otieno linked the rising cases of school dropouts in the sub-county to poor parenting and neglect, and appealed for joint efforts to reverse the trend.
