KUPPET wants KNEC to engage them before making new policies

KUPPET Meru branch Executive Secretary Karuti Nchebere. He has warned KNEC not to create policies without consulting them.

KUPPET has called on the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to engage them for their input before making new policies.

Meru County KUPPET Executive Secretary Karuti Nchebere accused the council of continuously coming up with new policies without consulting them.

“The council has continued churning out policies without consulting stakeholders. For instance, centre managers are required to pick exams twice a day without caring about the physical terrains of some of our institutions.

We are also concerned that KNEC has continued mistreating our members and this must change immediately,” said the unionist.

Speaking to education stakeholders in Igoji market in South Imenti Constituency, Nchebere said the rates paid to examiners must be revised upwards to a minimum of Ksh100 per script.

He said supervisors, invigilators and security officers must be paid promptly after the examinations are over since the money is budgeted for in advance.

“Risk insurance scheme must be provided to supervisors and invigilators during the examinations period,” he said, adding that centre organizers who include principals and deputies must be remunerated well.

“They should be paid Ksh3,000 and Ksh2,000 per day respectively. Science and other subjects with practicals should be compensated well,” said Nchebere.

He said they will continue to pursue the salary increment matter relentlessly until teachers get what they rightfully deserve.
