KUPPET wants Grades 8 and 9 moved to high school

KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori speaks at a past event.

The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) wants Grade 7 learners to remain in primary school while Grades 8 and 9 moved to high school.

This means a significant departure from the government’s current approach where all three Junior Secondary School (JSS) grades are domiciled in primary school.

KUPPET argues that the one-year implementation of JSS has been ‘terribly corrupted’ and plagued by numerous problems and should be discontinued.

The Union also wants a comprehensive study done to assess the effectiveness of the implementation of the CBC curriculum by JSS teachers.

KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori said that they will exercise a study to gather data to inform future policy decisions.

The proposal by the Union comes as it commemorates its 25th anniversary.

The ceremony will take place in Nairobi today during the Annual Delegates Conference which will be attended by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu.
