The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Vihiga branch officials, led by the branch Executive Secretary Sabala Inyeni, have spend the better part of the afternoon in Mbale police cells after being arrested during the ongoing nationwide Junior Secondary School (JSS) protests.

Inyeni, who earlier spoke to Education News, confirmed that he was arrested alongside his Assistant Executive Secretary Edward Matende and Secretary Secondary Schools Charles Otiende.

According to Inyeni, the police dispersed their demonstration in Mbale town by lobbying teargas on teachers and arresting some of the branch officilas, adding that they will not relent until the JSS teachers are confirmed on permanent and pensionable terms as per the court ruling.
