KUPPET urges President Ruto to appoint technocrat as Education CS

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education (KUPPET) have asked President William Ruto to appoint Education CS with Education background who will put in policies that will enhance quality of education in the country.

Nakuru County KUPPET Executive Secretary Duncan Macharia and his Laikipia counterpart Robert Miano said the time has come for the President Ruto to appoint CS who will be in touch with all education stakeholders including parents, teachers, learners and unions for the teachers to spearhead the education sector in Kenya.

Macharia said as KUPPET they request the President to appoint young energetic educationist who understand the current trends in Education and is ready to work harmoniously with all stakeholders in the sector including union leaders, Teachers Service Commission, Ministry of Education, Parent Associations among others.

“As teachers, we need a young person, rich in education background who will be ready to implement education policies that will improve quality of education in consultation with all stakeholders,” said Macharia.

Macharia said currently there a lot of amendments in  TSC and Education acts but stakeholders majority being teachers are not consulted to raise their views on those amendments despite of effects that the amendments will have in their careers.

Macharia said Education Ministry is very critical and every stakehoders including parents association should be involved through thorough consultations aimed at improving its quality.

He added that President Ruto should appoint CS who will respect Constitutional Commissions like TSC mandated to recruit teachers accusing the immediate former Education CS Ezekiel Machogu for allowing Members of Parliament to dish out employment letter to their friends and relatives in burial ceremonies in their villages.

“We should allow TSC to perform its Constitutional mandate of employing teachers so that any Kenyan despite of his or her economic, social, political or religion background can be employed as a teacher and this can only be done by TSC,” said Macharia.

Macharia who was speaking at Lamudiak High School in Njoro Sub-county in Nakuru County added that the new education CS should also reconsider hosting Junior Secondary School learners in Secondary School because of adequate facilities such as science laboratories and computer laboratories among others for smooth learning of JSS learners.

“JSS learners should be admitted in the secondary schools because majority of them are well established with adequate facilities like laboratories which will assist learners to learn smoothly,” said Macharia.

Laikipia Executive Secretary Robert Miano asked President Ruto to follow the footsteps of Former Kenyan Presidents who always appoint Education CS with education background who are able to spearhead education policies smoothly in all education institutions in the country.

He cited former ministers Prof Jacob Kaimenyi and Prof George Magoha whose positive impact in education was felt by all Kenyans.

“Education CS should be a qualified gentleman or lady who can provide good leadership skills in the process of implementing education policies in the country.
