Kuppet says TSC promoted 100 dead teachers in Kisumu

KUPPET Kisumu branch Executive Secretary Zablon Awange

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisumu branch Executive Secretary Zablon Awange has said that a total of 100 dead teachers were promoted by the Teachers Service Commission in the area.

Awange has called for a probe into the entire exercise noting it is an affront to the teaching profession in the country.

In March TSC promoted 36,505 to higher grades in the country following interviews that were completed in January.

The official who was speaking at the Bishop Abiero Secondary School in Kisumu Central Sub-county during an Annual General Meeting said other teachers who have since retired were also promoted.

Awange said the TSC should carry out a thorough audit on how teachers were promoted.

He as well took issue with the mode of recruiting teachers across the country pointing out that the entire exercise has been taken over by Government functionaries.

“We see politicians and other senior Government officials in social media dishing out employment letters to their cronies,” he said.

He asked the Government to enter into a Collective Bargaining Agreement with teachers afresh in the wake of the high cost of living.

Awange also added that it was wrong for the Government to reduce capitation from KSh22,000 per student to KSh17,000 wondering who will meet the deficit.

He said such an exercise should be carried out above board.
