The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has resumed its operations both at the National and Branch offices.
In a memo send to all Branch Executive Secretaries dated 23rd October 2020 reference number KUPPET/005/20 and signed by Secretary General Akelo Misori, the union directed its Branch Executive Secretaries to resume operations following a surge in the number of members.
“Following the partial re-opening of schools for Grade Four, Standard Eight and Form Four, an increasing number of teachers have sought essential services from the union. To meet the needs of such members, all union offices should resume operations with effect from Monday 26th October, 2020,” reads the statement.
However, the Branch Executive Secretaries have been urged to ensure they follow the Covid-19 protocols to avert the spread of the virus.
“Executive Secretaries are urged to ensure the full observation of Ministry of Health protocols for the containment of Covid-19 within union premises,” reads the statement.
The Union closed all its Branch Offices on 17th March 2020 due to the outbreak of Covid-19 including its headquarters in Nairobi as part of measures to control the virus.
During the closure, officials made arrangements to offer the most essential services but directed its members not to visit the union offices during the period but opened its communication channels to coordinate union affairs.
A visit to the union’s headquarters recently by Education News revealed normal operations in its various departments under strict adherence to the Ministry of Health protocols.
The secretariat which is based at the head office is the backbone of the union in provision of technical expertise which has a number of professional staffs who lead various department including Administration and Human Resource, Research and Development, and Information, Communication and Technology among others.
