Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) national leaders have maintained that they will not relent in the push for salary increment for teachers.

Speaking during Baringo Branch General Assembly (BGA) in Kabarnet town, the union Assistant National Treasurer Ronald Tonui and National Secretary in charge of Tertiary Institutions Mr. Sammy Chelang’a who led a meeting of officials from the area and different branches urged Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to expedite their increment especially for classroom teachers by 100 percent.

Mr. Tonui noted that the teachers’ employer in 2016 improved the salaries of administrators and thus there was need to honor their plight to motivate teachers.

The unionist said teachers should not be forced to be administrators in schools and promotions should only be made based on profession and line of administration.

‘’ It is unfortunate that TSC has failed to promote over 130,000 teachers who were to advance to next level. Only 36,000 teachers which is a drop in the ocean have been promoted by the employer,’’ regretted the unionist.

He added that teachers on acting capacities should be paid acting allowance and special duty allowance to compensate them for their work.

Mr. Chelang’a cited that cracks from their headquarters that emanated from strike that ended prematurely should not be a basis of intimidating union officials who are out to fight for gender gaps, addressing of issues of People with Disability (PWD) and accommodation of moguls in decision making.

During the event, the branch unveiled its new bus to aid in the welfare of teachers in the branch.
