The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has paid tribute to three teachers who recently passed away following a tragic road accident that occurred on January 31, 2026, during the union’s Nairobi branch elections.
The three teachers were Faith Ndunge Nguma, a panel head for Social Sciences and Drama Matron at Milimani Primary and Junior School; Jacob Mwanthi King’oo, a panel head for STEM and Sports Master at Milimani Primary and Junior School; and Nicholas Omondi Arem, a teacher at Ngara Girls High School.
The three died after a matatu lost control and rammed into a group of teachers outside City Primary School in Ngara.
At least 26 teachers were also injured in the incident, with many receiving treatment at Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi West Hospital, and Kenyatta National Hospital.
KUPPET expressed deep sorrow, describing the incident as a profound loss and a painful blow to the teaching fraternity. The union wished a swift and full recovery to those who sustained injuries.
