KUPPET (Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers) has opposed the rotation of exam supervisors as untenable, petitioning KNEC to reconsider the new policy because it has inconvenienced teachers by imposing more financial burdens on them.

Speaking in his office in Wote, Makueni branch Executive Secretary Justus Kimeu observed that though it is a way of curbing examination malpractice, the manner in which it was introduced was unfair.

“The supervisors are complaining for they feel the move was not considerate enough. Some had already budgeted for the whole month by renting rooms and houses near their centres. It will be very inconvenient for them, time wasting and will lead to financial loss,” Kimeu said.

He complained that the same supervisors are not allowed to board vehicles transporting examination papers, suggesting that if at all the rotation should happen, KNEC must organize for transport for them to their new centres.

“I would urge the supervisors to report to their current examination centres assigned and if the government wants them to move, it should provide transport,” the unionist said.

He called on field officers and the office of the county directors to allow those supervisors who are not able to continue with the exercise to be replaced amicably.

He advised that KNEC should look for its own examination administrators in future instead of tormenting teachers who are already burdened by other job-related problems like high taxation, job stagnation and mental stress, among others.
