Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Migori branch chairman Mr. Henry Otunga has championed the Member of Parliament for Uriri Constituency Hon. Eng. Mark Nyamita for a second term terming him as a true leader who values the future of the youths and learners.

Otunga was speaking during the Uriri Constituency’s Tukuza Talanta 5th edition where he called on other aspirant to shelve their political ambitions to support the MP for a second term in bid to see the constituency grow not only through infrastructure in schools but also the youths to be empowered financially in their various skills and talents.

Otunga said that as a teacher advocate, he has had the opportunity to move around the constituency and the legislator’s input is evident in both education and empowerment of youths, adding that no one can beat him in the forthcoming general elections.

The chairman noted that his sentiments were the desires and decision of teachers from within the constituency to see the MP retain his seat and serve the constituents of Uriri for a second term.

“I have been moving around the constituency due to the privilege granted to me by the teachers, performing my duties as their advocate but this has also given me the opportunity to listen and get their political interests on those they wish to represent them both at the county and national government.

“It would have been the desire of the people of Uriri Constituency to see you Hon. Nyamita scale upwards and vie for the gubernatorial seat but we support your decision to support Senator Ochilo Ayacko for the position and we trust your judgement on the same,” he said.

He noted that even though it is the constitutional right for the aspirants vying against the MP, they still lack the ability to unseat the current legislator.

His sentiments were echoed by county leaders and aspirants who graced the occasion led by the Migori County Governor Zachary Okoth Obado and Senator Ochilo who also urged the locals to support the area MP, noting that he is a leader worth their trust since he is development oriented.

He applauded the participants who took part in various sports for exercising peaceful competition challenging to do the same in the county and even during politics pledging to serve the interests of all residents in the county through development projects.

The governor on his end encouraged youths to emulate their peers who took part in the tournament noting it can pave way for them to get employed and to earn a living.

Obado lamented that were it not for the coronavirus pandemic, some youths from the constituency would have been part of Arsenal football club.

Nyamita congratulated all the participants who came out to showcase their skills and talents during the tournament which began a month ago with competitions commencing at the ward level.

Among the skills exhibited at the event included dancing, modelling, football, netball among other fields with winners getting awarded uniforms, cash and trophies.
