KUPPET national chair tells government to intervene to end JSS teachers’ strike

KUPPET National Chairman and Emuhaya Constituency legislator Jeremiah Omboko Milemba.

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) National Chairperson, Omboko Milemba has asked for a quick intervention in the Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) section amid the on-going demos by JSS teachers in some counties across the country.

Milemba while speaking to one of the local media in a morning talk on Wednesday, May 22, revealed there is need to act quick as the JSS that is being taught under Competency- Based Curriculum (CBC) need to be addressed so as not to fail the learners especially in public schools where teachers have failed to return to school for Term Two.

“We must sacrifice something to fix JSS and CBC immediately, because this is so dear to this country than a dam which we could miss now,” he said.

The KUPPET boss further said there should be a mechanism by the government on how there will be teachers in Grade 9 by next year to address teacher shortage in schools.

“If the Committee for Education is saying there is no money for hiring of Grade 9 teachers, I suggest the students should be taken to secondary schools so that they can be taught with immediate action, I think this is one way of giving a solution to the matter,” Milemba added.
