KUPPET Makueni demands structural reforms in JSS

Makueni KUPPET’s Justus Kimeu warns that without clear JSS structures by January, teachers may be moved to secondary schools.

Makueni, Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Executive Secretary Justus Kimeu has called upon the government to establish a clear administrative framework for Junior Secondary Schools by January; failure to do so will force the union to direct JSS teachers to report to the nearest secondary schools.

“We are demanding defined guidelines on the composition of Boards of Management, Parents Associations, and the roles of principals, deputies, and heads of departments to eliminate conflicts of interest and bring clear responsibilities on each,” Kimeu said.

Like any other JSS teachers in the country, the Makueni JSS teachers, speaking at Makindu, noted that there is a need for complete autonomy and immediate structural reforms to separate their operations from those of the primary schools.

They further argued that the government’s decision to domicile JSS within primary schools has caused serious confusion, leading to disruptions in administration and co-curricular activities.
