KUPPET lauded for championing teachers’ rights

The Kenya National Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has been lauded for its role of championing for the rights of teachers in the county.

Speaking during the union’s Kisii branch Annual General Meeting, Kisii county deputy governor Dr Joash Maangi underscored the vital role teachers play.

He said that teachers are learning resources, innovators, mentors and second parents to the learners and therefore they should be role models to the learners.

Dr Maangi, who led the Kenya Kwanza team to campaign in the area, conveyed Kisii county gubernatorial seat aspirant Mr. Ezekiel Machogu’s message that expressed the appreciation of the work done by teachers.

In a brief speech read on his behalf by Dr. Maangi, Machogu praised the teachers for posting good results in the 2021 KCSE examinations.

The branch executive Secretary Mr. Joseph Abincha said their union protects and fights for the rights of its members.

“Our job as a union and educators is to support any government that will regard peace and quality education for our children,” he said.

He asked citizens to conduct a peaceful election stressing that without peace, education goals will be hard to attain.

The Executive Secretary, who was flanked by his chairman Mr. Laban Ouko, asked the members to continue with the aggressive recruitment of new members so as to strengthen the union.

He called upon parents whose children did not attain the University entry points to join the TVETs to enable them acquire skills required for employment.

He asked teachers to sensitize parents on the right paths to follow when they are advising their children on career choices.

He also advised female students to take careers like Mechanics, Driving and building and construction and drop the notions that such courses are a preserve for males only.
