Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisumu County Branch on Friday took to the streets in a peaceful demonstration, expressing outrage over the brutal killing of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang by police officers.
The protest, led by the Kisumu County Executive Secretary Zablon Awange, saw scores of teachers and union members march through the city, demanding justice and accountability for the incident.
Holding placards and chanting slogans, the demonstrators decried what they termed as rising cases of police brutality against civilians, especially professionals like teachers who play a crucial role in nation-building.
Albert Ojwang, described by colleagues as a passionate educator and an outspoken online activist, reportedly died under unclear circumstances involving law enforcement officers. His death has sparked public outcry across social media and among human rights groups.

“We are here not just to mourn our colleague, but to demand answers and action,” said Awange.
“Albert was more than a teacher—he was a voice for the voiceless, and we will not rest until those responsible for his death are brought to justice.”
The union has called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to launch a swift and transparent investigation into the case. They also urged the national government to reign in rogue officers and ensure that the rule of law is upheld.
The protest remained peaceful, with union members vowing to continue advocating for justice until meaningful steps are taken by authorities.
As investigations unfold, KUPPET and the wider education fraternity await official communication from the police and the IPOA, while maintaining their call for justice for Albert Ojwang.
