KUPPET Kisii urges gov’t to consolidate bursaries, NG-CDF to fund school capitation

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii branch has urged the government to consolidate bursaries, NG-CDF to fund the dwindling school capitation fund.

KUPPET Kisii Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha strongly opposed the government’s move to decrease capitation funds from Kshs22, 000 to 16,000 per students in secondary schools saying that it will adversely affect learners from poor families.

He instead appealed to the government to consolidate the capitation funds with education bursary funds along with NG-CDF make it enough money totaling to Ksh35000 per student in secondary school

“There is enough money in the country to be distributed sufficiently to each student in secondary school but the problem is how the money is shared by those in power as some ends up disappearing into people’s pockets,” He said.

The Secretary was speaking to parents, teachers and students on Wednesday across Secondary schools in the County.

Among the secondary schools where he addressed the public include Nyabigena and Maroo Esinde in South Mugirango Constituency, Nyamiobo in Bomachoge Chache and Magena Boys’ in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency during their Education and prize giving ceremonies.

At Maroo Esinde Secondary school prize giving ceremony that was graced by area MP Sylvanus Osoro, Kisii County. Branch KUPPET Chairman Laban Ouko asked the government to revise the rules governing the promotion of teachers.

He complained about teachers who have stagnated in the same job group for 20 years without promotion by the TSC, saying that the situation caused a lot of frustrations and demotivation to teachers.

“Osoro you know you are quick to do things as a parliamentary Chief Whip please take our please to the President to intervene.” He said.

Ouko asked elected leaders from the region to consider advising the President to convert the ongoing merry – go round empowerment fund and the proposed forth coming Nyota fund by topping it up to school capitation funds.
