Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has supported President’s William Ruto’s recent proposal to avoid using security officers to monitor national examination progress in schools.

Union Kisii Branch chairman Laban Ouko said the practice has been intimidatory to learners and teachers.

The Chairman who spoke to the public in Kisii town on Friday said that the presence of police men in schools caused panic and fear to students as they sat their examinations, adding that the removal of the officers will be a good radiance to both teachers and their candidates.

“Examinations are not security threats to call for their manning by the police. The President’s suggestion to avoid their involvement in this important exercise should be implemented immediately.” He said.

He asked the Ministry of education to consult with the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to convert the money which could be used to pay security officers into the increment of salaries to those teachers in the lower cadre.
