The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii has challenged the government to accept that Competency Based Education (CBE) is a failure and call for collective participation of all stakeholders especially teachers and education experts to salvage it.
Kisii branch Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha cited various confusions prevailing in most schools that are indicators of failure and mentioned lack of enough teachers in the Junior Secondary schools as the mother of confusion in the current curriculum.
“We have witnessed unique status in our schools where a teacher is forced to teach drama and theatre in junior secondary school when they trained to teach CRE and Geography.” He said.
The unionist asked the TSC to post enough teachers to schools and the Ministry of Education to send enough learning materials like laboratory equipment to enable the few teachers who in schools to operate with ease.
He blamed President Ruto’s decree for all grade 10 students to report to school with or without school uniform saying that the situation will portray inequality between the children who come from poor homes and well-off ones hence cause the development of low esteem among learners.

Abincha who addressed the pubic at Kisii town yesterday, asked the government to separate junior secondary schools from primary schools and give them autonomy to enable them manage their resources well without antagonism witnessed in the recent past.
The unionist also alleged that the implementers of the CBE were handpicked by politicians instead selection through merit.
He asked the Ministry of education stop it and go back to the drawing board, consult education experts on best way forward to implement the system adding that all is not well.
Abincha, who is seeking to retain his seat for the second term in the union, asked teachers to turn in good numbers and vote for candidates of their own choice in the impending branch elections to be held on February 15 at Itierio High school in Kisii South Subcounty.
