KUPPET: Give learners three re-washable masks as schools reopen

By Staff Reporter

As the government contemplates resumption of learning, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers has asked the government to identify and aid the shifting of learners who were in private schools which were closed due to economic impotence brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement, KUPPET Chairman who also doubles up as Emuhaya MP Hon Omboko Milemba, the union wants the Ministry of Education to ensure students who were affected by the closure to be transferred to public schools.

“The government should take action to identify which private schools closed and have those students transferred to public schools which are nearer to those private schools,” said Milemba

Concerning the school calendar, syllabus coverage and the curriculum in the basic learning levels which were disrupted by the six months closure, the union through Milemba has assured the public that issues will be streamlined by teachers in collaboration with the Teachers Service Commission and the Ministry of Education.

As per the Covid-19 protocols the union has asked the government to equip 12 million learners in both primary and secondary schools with at least three re-washable face masks when schools reopen.

“We encourage the government to ensure that every student has a mask that will be bought by the government of Kenya,” urged Milemba.

He further added that the money should be sent to all public schools for effective operations as parents find ways of raising school fees that may not be acquired immediately.

Hon Milemba, however, asked the Ministry of Education to have the funds released from Treasury prior to the reopening for smooth operations.
