KUPPET condemns the brutal murder of albert Ojwang’, calls for justice

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers, (KUPPET) from Kisumu has condemned the brutal killing of one of their colleague in cold blood.

Branch executive secretary Zablon Awange, said the heinous killing of Albert Ojwang must not go unraveled at all.

Speaking in Kisumu, Awange said the perpetrators of the act must be arrested and charged before a court of law.

The official who was visibly annoyed said the Deputy Inspector General, (DIG) of the National Police Service, (NPS) Eliud Lagat should step aside in order to pave way for investigations.

He said the late Ojwang did not deserve to lose his life if at all he had committed a crime. “He should have been prosecuted according to the law,” Awange said.

The official, while welcoming the interdiction of some police officers, however, demands action on those who ordered his arrest.

Awange said Lagat is a person of interest and was likely to meddle in investigations if he continues being in office.

He said the late Ojwang was a junior school teacher who came from a very humble background and wondered why such kind of barbaric behavior was extended to him.

Awange further said that what happened to Ojwang was likely to recur if no decisive action is taken now. Adding that Kenya is a country which believes in the rule of law where offenders are given a fair hearing.

The unionist said that to show the gravity of the matter the late Ojwang was abducted in broad daylight in the presence of his parents.

He said the late Ojwang could he gone missing completely had nobody seen what took place.

“We will join our colleagues across the country in keeping a vigil for the late Ojwang as investigations progress,” said Awange.

The culprits should be arrested with great speed since that is what happened when the late Kaispul Mp Ongondo Were was gunned down in the city,” he stated.

He also said law enforcement agencies should act in the same manner in order to restore confidence among Kenyans, reiterating that all Kenyans are equal before the law hence the need to take the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

Ojwang was reportedly arrested in Homa Bay after publishing social media posts critical of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat.
