The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Trans Nzoia chapter has condemned an assault incident where a teacher was attacked by students.
This came after students of St. Johns Sikinkwa Secondary School in Saboti attacked their mathematics teacher inflicting serious injuries on him.
Speaking to Education News, Furaha Lusweti the branch Executive Secretary said the incident was uncalled for and called on the authorities to bring the students involved to book.
Lusweti said the students went overboard to the extent of physically attacking the tutor saying the incident could lead to a bad precedent to others making learning institutions inhabitable to teachers.
“As a union, we condemn with the strongest terms possible the attack of a teacher by learners because it is wrong. We cannot allow our members to be subjected to such incidences. How on earth can a student get courage to attack their teacher?” He asked.
The unionist called on the government to beef up the security of teachers to avert such occurrences in the future.
According to Nicholas Bett, the victim, the students accosted him in the evening, attacking him with blunt objects.
The teacher has recorded a statement with the police who are currently on the matter.
