The Kenya Post-Primary Education Teachers, (KUPPET) Bomet chairmanship aspirant Bismarck Ronoh has issued a strong call for transparency and fairness in the upcoming union elections, urging the branch leadership to adopt an independent and accountable electoral process.

In a formal communication to Branch Executive Secretary Paul Kimetto, Ronoh accused past election cycles in the county of being tainted by irregularities, including the alleged unlawful removal of eligible members from the voter register.

He insisted that such practices must not be allowed to resurface as teachers prepare to choose their next leadership.

Ronoh further said that teachers in Bomet deserve an election anchored on trust, integrity and equal opportunity, warning that attempts to manipulate membership registers or block legitimate candidates would be met with firm resistance through proper legal and union channels.

“Teachers want a fair election conducted in good faith. We cannot go into another election clouded by suspicion and allegations of tampering. This time, every member must be accounted for and every candidate given a level playing field.” He stated.

To safeguard the credibility of the elections, Ronoh has proposed the establishment of an independent oversight team, drawn equally from the current office and aspirants, to verify voter registers, supervise nomination documents and ensure polling centres are fairly allocated.

He added that the structure is not meant to antagonise the union leadership, but to build confidence among members and uphold the values KUPPET stands for.

Ronoh further issued a timeline, calling for the oversight team to be constituted within five working days and register verification completed within ten working days thereafter.

He has given the branch leadership up to November 7, 2025, to submit the names of their representatives to the verification panel.

“We are committed to a clean election,” Ronoh said. “This is not a battle against individuals; it is a stand for transparency, respect for teachers’ rights, and protection of the democratic voice within KUPPET.”

The memo has sparked conversation among teachers in Bomet, many of whom have welcomed the call, saying accountability in union elections is key to strengthening teacher representation and leadership credibility.

Ronoh expressed optimism that the current officials will embrace the proposal, noting that a transparent election would not only protect the union’s integrity but also rebuild unity and trust among educators in the county.
