A section of KUPPET Migori Branch aspirants has urged area leaders to help advocate listing of Nyatike sub-county as a hardship area for teachers.
Speaking at Muhuru Bay where they conducted their campaigns towards the forthcoming union elections on January 15th, 2021 Executive Secretary aspirant Kenn Boro noted the need for advocating teachers working in the area to receive hardship allowance.
Boro faulted the current county union officials for failure to work with the national political leaders to help draft a bill for gazettement over the same despite knowing difficulties faced by member teachers working in the region.
“Our county union officials have failed to fight for members working in hardship areas like Nyatike despite having the chance and ability to do so even through finances. There is a dire need for change in the leadership of the union for the sake of saving teachers from frustrations that they face daily in their areas of work,” said Boro.
He, however, urged teachers to remain firm on their demands from the union leaders despite threats and intimidation from the officeholders.
“It’s a pity that when teachers differ in ideologies with the union officials they receive intimidating threats from those they elected to represent their needs to their employer. Not every member can visit the TSC offices over their frustrations hence the need for a union,” he added.
In his statement, he urged teachers to support change in ideology in the running of the KUPPET union offices and functions for a better working environment.
Mr. Bernard Obonyo eying the position of Secretary Secondary, however, narrated the ordeal of teachers working within the area.
Obonyo said he and his colleagues working within the constituency have been facing several challenges that ought to have been addressed by their union leaders.
“We feel neglected by our union leaders who should have explained our plight to the employer to enhance a better working environment for its members,” he said.
