KUCCPS courses rejected by candidates in last three years

By Vostine Ratemo

With the Kenya Universities and Collages Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) set to open the portal for last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations candidates to register courses, the Ministry of Education has had trouble in placing students with Grade C+ and above as a number of courses are being rejected hence leaving them with little or no students at all.

This might be due to the fact that majority of students who managed to score grade C+ ( plus) and above have the courses in mind that they want to pursue before student intakes are due in both private and public universities.

The list seen by Education News of rejected courses includes; Bachelor of Technology in Building Construction, Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, Theology, Bachelor of Science (Energy Technology), Bachelor of Technology in Renewable Energy, Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Automotive Technology have been in the spotlight for having low enrolment numbers dating between 2019 and 2022 in different universities.

Others are; BSC Horticulture, Bachelor of Science ( Utilization & Sustainability of Arid) Bachelor of Agribusiness Management, Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Biology and Health), Bachelor of Science (Botany), BS in Nutrition and Dietetics.

Some of the reasons highlighted are that applicants frequently choose highly competitive courses for all four of their KUCCPS spots and that they lack guidance in career fair.
