The Gichugu Technical and Vocational College (GTVC) in Kirinyaga County, valued at Ksh52 million, is scheduled to welcome its first students next month.
Besides imparting life skills to the youth, leaders and residents are optimistic the Kabare based institution will significantly boost the economy.
Gichugu Constituency NGCDF chairman Geoffrey Kariuki stated that residents and investors have already begun constructing hostels to accommodate the large number of learners anticipated at the institution on August 19.
“It has created many jobs where people worked as casual workers and skilled technicians during its construction,” he said.
“When it is up and running, it will see youth employed as security guards and messengers among others who do not require high technical skills.”
He expressed optimism that the institution will also contribute to increasing land value in the area as more hostels, shops, and eateries will be established.

The learning institution is expected to have a positive impact on Kiamutugu, Kianyaga, Kamugunda towns, and other nearby shopping centers surrounding Kiambatha village.
Kariuki mentioned that the NG-CDF allocated Ksh12 million to the project, while the Ministry of Education contributed Ksh40 million.
He mentioned that the two-story building was advancing slowly before they assumed office in 2022. The constituency is represented by MP Githinji Gichimu. The land for the institution was taken from the grounds of the neighboring Kiambatha Primary School.
