Grade 6 learners across the country are gearing up to sit for the maiden Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) come November this year.
Mbalambala Sub County Director of Education Abdirashid Muktar said that the learners will sit for 13 papers: Mathematics , English, Kiswahili , Kenyan Sign Language, Science Technology, Physical and Health Education , Agriculture , Home Science, Social Studies, Art and Craft , Christian Religious Education(CRE) , Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and Hindu Religious Education(HRE) .
“The subjects will be grouped into five exam papers which will be having multiple choices apart from Insha and Composition .They include Mathematics, English , Kiswahili / Kenya Sign Language, Intergraded Science (IS ) that will comprise of Science and Technology ,Home Science , Agriculture, Physical and Health Education as well as Creative Arts and Social Studies which comprise Craft Music , Social Studies and Religious Education, ” he added.
KPSEA exam will be marked out of 40 per cent. The remaining 60 per cent will be fetched from the School Based Assessment (SBA) which they did in grade three, four and five.
“The 40 per cent will be emanated from the final summative assessment in grade six,’’ said Muktar
Activities for tutors:
- List all the strands in your learning area from grade 4-6 as given in the curriculum design
- Create a chart of strands and sub strands in your learning area from grade 4 -6
- Identify the strands tested in your learning using KNEC paper
- Identify which strands have more questions than others
For English and Swahili it worth noting that some of the cognitive skills tested in the passage questions forage on evaluation (inference, summarising –best title). Comprehension, knowledge vocabulary analysing and applications in broken passage
