KPSA chairperson decries biased assessment of private schools

By Agnes Orang’o

Matungulu and Kangundo sub county Kenya Private Schools Association (KPSA) chairperson John Mackenzie has expressed concern that there is bias against private schools.

Speaking in Machakos county, Mackenzie said private schools perform well and dominate public schools yet the lists of performance provided by the MoE state otherwise.

He alleged that there is open bias and unfair assessment of private schools without proper explanation leading to mass transfers of students to public schools.

Mackenzie said that unless the government puts up measures, the trend will not change.

“Most private schools have enough facilities and teachers to cater for the education needs of learners unlike public schools that are ill-equipped, lack enough teachers and are overcrowded thus causing inefficiency,” he said.

He added that it’s impossible for teachers in public schools to cater for the needs of all learners under their care since they are shorthanded.
