The KPC Foundation has rolled out a two‑week, countrywide vetting exercise to identify Grade 10 learners with disabilities for full secondary school scholarships under its Inuka Programme, covering all 47 counties.

During the launch, the Foundation issued a statement, stating that the exercise targets students transitioning to Grade 10, with one boy and one girl to be selected from each county. The initiative is designed to strengthen equitable, inclusive and gender‑balanced access to senior secondary education for learners with disabilities.

KPC Managing Director and Foundation Chair, Joe Sang, said the programme is anchored on removing socio‑economic barriers that keep vulnerable learners out of school. “The Inuka Scholarship is designed to ensure learners with disabilities are not left behind due to socio‑economic challenges. Through this programme, we continue to invest in the potential of young people across the country,” he said.

The vetting process includes document verification, interviews and socio‑economic assessments, with parents and guardians engaged throughout in line with ethical and safeguarding standards. Officials noted that the approach is intended to ensure that support reaches genuinely needy and qualified learners while upholding dignity and accountability.

The Inuka Scholarship is the Foundation’s flagship education intervention for bright but vulnerable learners with disabilities, providing comprehensive support to access quality senior secondary education. Beneficiaries may also transition to tertiary support through the Inuka Plus Programme, which offers holistic assistance aimed at academic success and long‑term self‑reliance.

To enhance transparency and adherence to disability inclusion standards, vetting is being conducted by multi‑agency county committees comprising county officials, KPC Foundation representatives and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD). The collaborative model is expected to standardize selection criteria and strengthen oversight across counties.

The Foundation said the scholarship drive underscores its commitment to advancing inclusive, equitable and quality education for learners from marginalized and vulnerable communities. It added that the programme aligns with national efforts to improve transition rates and outcomes for students with disabilities, particularly at the senior secondary level where costs and accessibility often pose significant barriers.

Officials indicated that successful candidates will receive full scholarships covering tuition and related needs, with continued mentorship and follow‑up to support retention and performance. The Foundation emphasized that the Inuka Programme is not only about access but also about ensuring learners thrive and complete their education with pathways to further training and employment.

The vetting exercise began on Monday and will run for two weeks, with county teams expected to finalize selections and submit consolidated lists for verification before awards are announced. The Foundation encouraged communities to support eligible learners to present themselves for vetting and to provide accurate information during assessments.

KPC Foundation reiterated that the Inuka Scholarship remains a long‑term investment in inclusive education, aiming to reduce disparities and expand opportunities for learners with disabilities across the country.
