Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has confirmed the transfer of Koyonzo Boys High School rugby head coach Eliud Okwemba to Bokoli Boys High School in Bungoma County, ending an eight-year tenure that transformed Koyonzo into a rugby powerhouse.

Okwemba joined Koyonzo in 2017, taking over a little-known side and turning it into one of the most successful rugby schools in Kenya and East Africa. Under his leadership, the team clinched the East Africa School Games Rugby Sevens title in 2023, alongside two national championships and four national appearances.

His dominance was equally evident at the local level, where Koyonzo secured the Western Region Rugby Sevens title four times and claimed the Kakamega County crown on four occasions. These victories elevated the school from obscurity to continental recognition, making it a consistent force in school rugby.

Beyond the silverware, Okwemba’s program became a breeding ground for young talent. Several players who trained under him advanced to represent Kenya in junior competitions, while others earned trials with elite clubs. His focus on discipline, strategy, and athletic excellence has been widely credited for raising the profile of rugby in Western Kenya.

The transfer now ushers in a new chapter at Bokoli Boys High School, a Bungoma-based institution known for its rugby culture but still striving to establish itself among the giants. Okwemba officially reported to his new duty station this week, where he was received by the school’s principal, Joseph Mulongo, in a brief welcoming ceremony attended by staff and students.

With his arrival, expectations are high that Bokoli will challenge more consistently at the county, regional, and national levels. His track record at Koyonzo suggests that the school could soon be in contention for major titles, a development that has sparked excitement within Bungoma’s rugby community.

For Koyonzo Boys, Okwemba’s departure marks the end of a golden era. His achievements have left a lasting legacy, positioning the school as one of the country’s most respected rugby institutions. As he begins his new assignment, the spotlight now shifts to whether he can replicate the same success and guide Bokoli Boys to national and East African glory.
