Konoin MP Brighton Yegon has honoured his pledge to support the education of Naomi Chepngetich, a student at Ndaraweta Girls High School.

This follows a directive by President William Ruto during burial in Emurrua Dikkr three weeks ago.

Chepngetich, who is the sister of the late Amos Kiprotich—a Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officer who perished in a tragic helicopter crash—had been on the verge of dropping out of school due to fee arrears amounting to KSh 92,000.

Her brother died alongside Ngong Ngeno Ole Kisiara and other members of the team in the February 28 crash in Nandi County.

Speaking after clearing the arrears, Yegon reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the student completes her education. “No child should lose their future because of circumstances beyond their control. I am committed to seeing Naomi through her education,” he said.

The MP’s intervention follows an appeal by President Ruto during the emotional burial ceremony held in Emurua Dikirr, where leaders and residents gathered to mourn the victims. At the event, the President directed Yegon to take responsibility for Chepngetich’s education.

“Where is Sonko? Nelson Koech, you take one child and educate them. And Brighton, you take another one,” President Ruto said, drawing applause from mourners.

Turning to Yegon amid lighthearted moments, the President added, “Can it defeat you? If it becomes difficult, come and look for me.”

Ruto also pledged to support another family affected by the tragedy, noting that one of Amos Rotich’s children is currently in university. “There is a young man in that family who is in university. That one is easy, I will take care of his education,” he said.

He further urged local leaders to step in and support other children left behind by the deceased.

The announcement brought hope to grieving families and was met with applause during the ceremony, which paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the crash while returning from an event in Endebess, Trans Nzoia County.

Yegon’s fulfilment of his promise now secures Chepngetich’s education, offering a measure of relief and a path forward after a devastating loss.
