KNUT will support any government in power that takes into account the plight of teachers, Gucha South KNUT Executive Secretary Joseph Makabe Moguche said.

Speaking in Kisii County, the unionist said that teachers form a huge section of the civil service and if their welfare is affected by bad governance, the whole country’s welfare is in jeopardy.

“We are the educators of society and if we are troubled in anyway, the whole nation and the future of our children are threatened,” he cautioned.

He asked teachers to stick to their professional ethics as they practice their democratic rights.

Mr. Moguche took a swipe at the CS for education Prof George Magoha for telling teachers to keep off politics.

“Teachers are some of the political shapers in this country and there is no way they are going to be separated from responsible politics,” he stressed.

Calling for peaceful elections, he advised teachers to be the champions of peace in their communities instead of siding with ill-intentioned politicians who misuse the youth instead of guiding them.
