KNUT warns of schools closure over insufficient, late disbursement of funds

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Bungoma East branch has warned that learning in schools across the country could be paralyzed due to insufficient capitation funds.

The branch Executive Secretary Aggrey Namisi said that some schools were yet to receive capitation funds while other schools received less funds and their schools heads were finding it hard to run the institutions.

“Learning in schools will be paralyzed if the government doesn’t disburse the required capitation funds on time,” he said.

Namisi urged Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Mochogu to disburse the funds to schools as students prepare to go back to school after the half-term break.

Elsewhere, Bungoma East union Chairman Robert Mandila has warned the youth against being used by politicians to harass and block school Headteachers from accessing their schools after the region recorded high number of cases where some politicians allegedly incite residents to chase away school heads over flimsy claims.

The most recent case occurred when some parents of Manafwa Primary School locked out school head Vincent Oduor after some candidates’ names could not be traced in the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) portal.
