KNUT wants TSC to post additional teachers to Narok County

First Vice National Chairman Malel Langat.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers now wants the government to post additional teachers to Narok County.

First Vice National Chairman Malel Langat says understaffing has hampered efforts of improving academic standards in the region.

Speaking in the area, he says if students from the county are to compete well with their counterparts in the country, it was necessary to hire more teachers.

“Narok has for a long time been neglected. If our children are to compete well with their counterparts from other regions, Teachers Service Commission  should post more teachers to this region, especially those of JSS,” he noted.

According to him, the county has been neglected over the years, hitting out at local leaders for failing to push for a solution.

Langat reiterated the union’s commitment to champion the rights of teachers, saying teachers play a crucial role in the improvement of the country’s academic standards.

“KNUT remains committed to championing the rights of teachers. There are many issues we want addressed and we will push on despite the threats and intimidation from the government. The Union is and shall remain strong,” added Langat.

Meanwhile, JSS teachers in Nandi have threatened not to report to work should the government fail to meet their demands before schools reopen.

The teachers want to be converted into Permanent and Pensionable terms and their salaries increased, saying it was illegal to subject them to internship for two years.
