KNUT wants employment of P1 teachers prioritized as they have been forgotten

Bomet JSS teachers during the period of demonstrations. KNUT wants P1 teachers to be also considered for employment as they have been overshadowed by JSS counterparts.

KNUT’s Bomet branch now wants P1 teachers given priority in the recruitment of teachers in the country as they have been sidelined by the focus on JSS teachers.

Branch Executive Secretary Desmond Lang’at has said the teachers have been neglected, a trend he noted is worrying.

Addressing the press, Lang’at argued the teachers are qualified and better placed to handle the primary section going by the learners’ ages.

“TSC is now focussing on hiring JSS teachers, forgetting P1 tutors. These teachers are well qualified to handle the primary section hence should be given priority,” he said.

He noted that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has focused more on Junior Secondary School (JSS) employment at the expense of the primary section.

He also rooted for the retooling of JSS teachers to make them compatible with the comprehensive school system as they were trained for secondary education.

Lang’at further lauded teachers from the region for their discipline and hard work, noting that no indiscipline case has been reported in the county in the recent past.

“Teachers in this region are hard-working. As a union we are happy and hereby thank our teachers. No case of indiscipline has been reported among our members in the recent past. This is encouraging,” he said.
