KNUT wants CBC allocated more funds for successful implementation

Musa Busienei, Keiyo North KNUT Executive Secretary. He wants the government to increase funding for CBC.

KNUT (Kenya National Union of Teachers) now wants the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) allocated more funds, with Elgeiyo/Marakwet Executive Secretary Musa Busienei saying the curriculum is expensive and requires more resources as compared to 8-4-4.

Addressing the press, he observed that CBC is practical-oriented and requires equipment so as to make it successful.

“CBC is costly and requires a lot of resources. If the curriculum is to succeed, more funds should be allocated to it,” he noted.

He also appealed for the timely release of the funds, saying delayed capitations impact negatively on learning activities.

According to him, public schools in the country are grappling with scarcity of funds, a situation he described as a threat to education.

“Schools are currently grappling with lack of funds. As KNUT, we want capitation funds increased to Ksh5,000 from 1,500 per pupil in primary school and Ksh22,000 from 15,000 for JSS,” added Busienei, a move he said will also help boost the quality of education in the country.
