KNUT vows to block delocalisation policy

By Erick Nyayiera

KNUT Siaya sub-branch has vowed to do everything possible to ensure that Teachers’ Service Commission’s policy on delocalisation of teachers is not implemented in the region.
The Government through the TSC has begun implementing the delocalisation policy which aims at enhancing cohesion and reducing tribalism among the Kenyan communities.
KNUT Siaya sub-branch Executive Secretary Clement Omolo,  said the programme is bound to fail.
He says that they are going to strongly oppose the policy, arguing that there is no way that the transfer of head teachers to schools far away from their places of birth can promote national cohesion.
TSC had begun implementing the delocalization policy in a move which saw several Secondary school Principals transferred across the country and it was now planning to begin the mass transfer of primary school heads through that same policy.
Mr. Omolo has, however, instructed all the primary school heads in Siaya County to ensure they report to the union’s offices for assistance should any of them be affected by the delocalisation policy.
The Executive Secretary who spoke to journalists in Siaya town, took the opportunity to condemn the recent attack on KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion by a clique of teachers who demanded his resignation as the SG to concentrate on matters that pertains to his nomination into Parliament.
He urged all teachers to solidly unite behind Sossion to be able to achieve for them better things.
Omolo also condemned a section of KNUT National Executive Council members who are opposed to Sossion.
