KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu plants a tree

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu joined Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia, Commissioners, education stakeholders and the Nairobi Primary School fraternity on Tuesday in a tree-planting exercise as momentum builds towards commemorating this year’s World Teachers’ Day.

The celebrations will be held at the Kenya School of Government, Nairobi on Thursday, October 5, 2023.

The afforestation exercise was also to honour the presidential directive to government institutions to implement measures to protect the environment, mitigate climate change and improve the national forest cover.

The tree planting was also an implementation of resolutions reached during the Africa Climate Summit 2023 which took place at the Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC) weeks ago.

The World Teachers’ Day is held annually to celebrate the work of teachers. Established in 1994, it commemorates the signing of recommendations by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) concerning the status of teachers.
