KNUT throws weight behind move to stop delocalization policy

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has come out strongly to support the move by the National Assembly to stop the delocalization policy that was introduced by TSC in 2018.

KNUT Deputy Secretary General Hesbon Otieno told Education News that the policy has never born any fruits in terms of quality of education, management and administration of schools.

“Every policy must produce results. Since delocalization was introduced, we haven’t witnessed any improvement in results in terms of management and administration of schools,” said Otieno.

He noted that the union had initially talked with the employer Teachers Service Commission (TSC) who in turn promised to do away with the policy.

“Any other voice that can come in to champion for the removal of the delocalization policy is welcomed since it’s in order of our thinking,” he said.

KNUT and Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have never supported the policy since its introduction.

The unions argued that the implementation process was rushed and that it ignored issues of spousal proximity as well as age and health of some of the affected, yet the said factors have informed previous deployment and transfers done by TSC.
