KNUT supports KUPPET aspirants

By Norah Musega

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has pledged to support Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) aspirants in the coming union elections to restore sanity in the teaching profession.

Speaking in Kuria East sub-county, KNUT Executive Secretary endorsed Mr. Francis Marwa Mahaba for the position of treasurer in the union’s county leadership.

Mr. Joseph Mangi said there is a need for unity and equal distribution of leadership positions in the unions to enhance equal distribution of resources to all communities and members.

Mangi also noted that other communities have always been left out in leadership positions despite the county being cosmopolitan.

“We must learn to accommodate each other and embrace their culture. Team change in the KUPPET race has proven to be accommodative and considerate enough by ensuring that all communities residing within the county are represented in the contest for the union elections. This shows that when elected to office they will ensure equal distribution of union’s resources and services hence emulating good leadership qualities,” said Mangi.

He, however, called on school heads who believe in a change to give their support to the teams during campaigns and even on the election day.

His sentiments come two weeks after the KNUT Secretary-General hosted a team KUPPET aspirants at his home where he also pledged his support and the need for the two teachers’ unions working together for the sake of teachers’ welfare and rights.

Last week, the teams were also hosted by Migori County Governor Okoth Obado where they had gone to condole the death of his mother. Obado promised to support them.
