KNUT slams TSC over ‘mishandling’ of teachers

By Lydia Ngoolo

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Mwingi branch Secretary General Michael Mbutu has warned the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to be careful on how they handle teachers’ issues.

The unionist asked TSC to respect KNUT as a labour movement.

“The executive secretaries have not been paid for around 18 months. The Union has been pushed to a point of being on its deathbed since it can’t pay their officials. It’s inhuman to make workers go without pay,” he said.

He observed that those workers going without pay have got personal obligation that they can’t cater for, simply because of an action that has been taken which in first place is illegal.

Mbutu called upon the government to make sure that teachers are returned back to KNUT saying they need a union which will protect their rights and speak on their behalf.
