The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) convened a post-World Teachers Day meeting to reflect on what they might have achieved and chart the way forward.

It was hosted by the KNUT Kitui Branch at Kitui Teachers Training College on Huduma Day, October 10, 2023.

Secretary General (SG) Collins Oyuu acknowledged the immense sacrifice teachers make across the globe and emphasized the union’s inclusivity policy.

“KNUT represents all educators in Kenya, not just those in primary schools,” he stated.

Oyuu also voiced concerns over the welfare of Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers, urging that they be registered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and paid commensurately.

Furthermore, he highlighted the pressing issue of teacher shortage in the country, expressing utter disapproval of TSC’s delocalization in the name of promotion.

He lauded the Kitui Branch for the successful event and announced its annual general meeting for October 21, 2023. Other KNUT branches will have their meetings in April next year.

Union National Chairman Patrick Karinga Munuhe lauded the teachers for their pivotal role in development, noting that World Teachers Day was established by UNESCO in 1994 to recognize the significance of educators globally.
