KNUT recruits 5,000 teachers in Nakuru

By Peter Otuoro

Over 5,000 teachers from Nakuru county have been recruited to join the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) during the union’s mass recruitment exercises.

KNUT Nakuru branch Executive Secretary Anthony Gioche said they are conducting the mass recruitment of members to ensure the union recovers its lost glory.

Speaking in one of the functions in Nakuru, Gioche said that they aim to have a big bargaining power so that they can advocate for the rights of all their members.

“KNUT is one of the biggest unions in East and Central Africa. Teachers from primary, secondary schools should join the union to make it stronger,” he said.

He added that the union’s unity is its strength.

“If all teachers joined KNUT, they will have a powerful negotiation base. We will then be able to improve our working financial status through implementing Collective Bargaining Agreement in a diplomatic manner,” the unionist said.

He thanked the union’s national secretary general Collins Oyuu for his diplomatic approach of engaging with TSC boss.

“The approach has made many teachers have hope in the union. ”Gioche concluded.
