KNUT official faults TSC for forcing teachers to take the coronavirus jab

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary Sammy Bor has hit at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for forcing teachers to get the Covid-19 vaccination jab.

Speaking to the press, Bor said the move is uncalled for and ill intended.

“As union leaders, we will not allow our teachers to be frustrated by the employer, to take a covid-19 jab is not a must and can only be done voluntarily. Why is TSC forcing teachers to have it amid threats of disciplinary? This is uncalled for,” the disappointed Chepkoilel KNUT Secretary said.

This comes after the TSC directed that all teachers go for the jab, failure to which teachers will face disciplinary actions.

“I want to call upon teachers not to be threatened or intimidated by TSC, you should only go for the jab voluntarily since as I am talking some teachers have other diseases and fear the jab might cause other issues,” he added.

He further called on teachers across the country to ensure that they follow the directives the Ministry of Health to prevent further spread of coronavirus which has continued to claim many lives.

“We have lost a number of teachers to the virus, therefore teachers should follow directives such as washing hands before and after every activity, avoid overcrowded placed, putt on facemasks and always ensure the social distancing rule is followed to the latter. We do not want to lose more teachers just because of ignoring the directives,” he said.

He also urged school administration to ensure that students put on facemasks and that they have enough hand washing points.
