KNUT Nyamira opposes controversial 2023 Finance Bill

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Nyamira Branch have taken a stand against the controversial 2023 Finance Bill.

Led by the Executive Secretary Nicholas Nyang’au, the unionist slammed President William Ruto for concluding that Kenyans do not have houses and imposing taxes on them for the same.

Nyang’au acused Ruto of intending to deprive teachers the earnings awarded to them by the previous governments.

“The president should seize from proposing punitive financial measures that demoralize teachers and instead learn from previous regimes who bettered the lives of teachers through increasing their salaries,” he said.

He asked the president to consult widely with financial technocrats before venturing into any public project that affects the hard earned money of the common man.

“The president should avoid forcing Kenyans to chew more than they can swallow,” he stated.

Reverend Ibrahim Ombuya of the Church of God appealed to all elected leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties to reject the bill when it is tabled in parliament.

The pastor asked the president to read the minds of Kenyans before introducing hard economic changes that might divide the country.
