KNUT Narok branch has urged trained teachers to apply for the 24,000 internship vacancies announced by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), which has opened an online recruitment drive targeting Junior Secondary Schools across the country. The vacancies, advertised through the TSC portal, are part of the government’s plan to strengthen education delivery and address teacher shortages.

According to the TSC, priority will be given to unemployed teachers with qualifications in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, in line with efforts to enhance competency-based learning in Junior Secondary Schools.

KNUT Narok Chairman Newton Koech welcomed the recruitment, describing it as a significant milestone under the Kenya Kwanza administration. “This recruitment brings the total number of teachers employed under the Kenya Kwanza government to 100,000. It is encouraging to see that teacher employment continues to be a priority,” said Koech during a meeting in Melelo.

He further called on the government to complement teacher recruitment with a nationwide school feeding programme, particularly in primary schools, to boost enrolment and learning outcomes. “A school feeding programme would ensure learners, especially those in rural and marginalized areas, attend school regularly and stay focused on their education. Proper nutrition is key to their well-being,” he emphasized.

The recruitment of 24,000 intern teachers is expected to ease the growing teacher shortage and improve implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Interested applicants have until 9th September to submit their applications online via the TSC portal.
