KNUT Nandi wants least number of candidates per exam center reduced

Candidates sitting their exams. KNUT wants the minimum number of candidates required per center reduced.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) now wants the number of candidates required per exam center reduced from 30 to 10, terming the requirement punitive to candidates in remote areas.

KNUT Chesumei/Nandi Central branch Chairperson Benard Maiyo says most locals have embraced family planning which has led to low population of students at local schools.

Speaking in Kapsabet town, he urges Basic Education Principal Secretary (PS) Belio Kipsang’ to intervene and direct KNEC to implement the change, noting that the union had made the request before.

“Many centers have less than the requisite 30 candidates and children have been forced to travel to centers many kilomiters away. This is punitive and we want this number reduced to 10,” he said.

Maiyo also called for the number of containers in the region increased to ease distribution and submission of exams, arguing that the country has enough police and administrators to man the containers.

“This will ease the collection and submission of exams and also save on time,” he observed.
