KNUT Marakwet gears up for by-elections in July

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Marakwet branch is set to hold by-elections on July 8 to fill vacant positions after several officials retired.

Members will cast their votes in the mini-polls to fill the positions of Treasurer and the Assistant, Vice Chairperson, Women Representatives and four Branch Executive Committee members.

Speaking to Education News, branch Executive Secretary John Cheberi said members have already been notified and that the union is ready for the elections which will take place on the same day as the branch’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).

“As indicated in our May memo, we shall be having the AGM on 8th July. The meeting will be used to hold by-elections to fill positions whose officials have retired from service. I call upon members to turn up for this important exercise,” he said.

The unionist assured members and aspirants of free and fair elections and urged interested members to submit applications for the seats.

Before exiting service, Christopher Chelimo was the Treasurer while Mike Belio and Pauline Komol were Vice Chairperson and Woman Representative respectively.

The branch Executive Committee positions to be filled are for Tot/Tunyo(male), Tirap/Kapyego(male) and Kapsowar/Chebiemit (both male and female).
