KNUT, KUPPET told to keep off JSS intern teachers affairs

KIRINYAGA JSS TEACHERS IN A DEMONSTRATION recently

The Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) intern teachers who are set to be confirmed by Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on July 1, 2024 have told off the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) amid the scramble on which union they should join.

One of the JSS intern teachers who led the team in addressing the media over the weekend urged Member of Parliament for South Mugirango Constituency who also doubles as the Majority whip at the National Assembly to speak with the KUPPET Secretary –General Akelo Misori to keep off the planned integration of intern teachers into their union.

He lamented that both KUPPET and KNUT turned their back on them whistle they were picketing demanding they be confirmed into Permanent and Pensionable (PnP) terms as well as fair payment for over three weeks.

“When we will be confirmed On PnP terms by TSC soon, both KUUPET and KNUT should not interfere with our operations, we still remember vividly how they didn’t support us on our demos, they should let us control our funds as we only fought for it ourselves,” he lamented.

They further said that the intern teachers are working with the right authorities to ensure that they can register their own union.

The move comes a few days after KUPPET resolved to create slots for JSS intern teachers in national and branch level just last week when the union held a meeting at Kasarani Sports View with some 54 National Governing Council (NGC).
