Leaders from the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have condemned the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, terming it a cowardly act that undermines democratic values and national cohesion.

Led by KNUT National Second Vice Chairperson Aggrey Namisi, and joined by Emuhaya Member of Parliament Omboko Milemba, the delegation visited the legislator on Friday at Karen Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment following the incident in Kisumu.

During the joint visit with KUPPET officials, the leaders said they were encouraged by the senator’s recovery, noting that he was in stable condition and in high spirits despite the ordeal.

MP Omboko Milemba said the visit was meant to express solidarity and support for the senator and his family, confirming that he was recuperating well.

“We are glad that our brother is recovering and remains in good spirits. We wish him a quick and full recovery,” Milemba said.

The leaders strongly condemned the attack, describing it as unacceptable and calling for swift investigations to ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.

KNUT leadership, through Aggrey Namisi, urged security agencies to expedite investigations, noting that preliminary reports indicate arrests have already been made as probes into the incident continue.

Namisi also cautioned against attempts to incite division or assign collective blame to communities for the actions of individuals, warning that such tendencies could threaten national unity.

“As a democratic nation, we must never return to the dark days of the 1970s when human life was disregarded,” he said, calling for restraint and adherence to the rule of law.

The leaders emphasised the need for national unity and peaceful coexistence, urging authorities to ensure justice is served without delay.

The visit comes amid heightened concern among leaders over rising cases of political violence, with renewed calls for enhanced security and respect for democratic processes across the country.
